Bead Blasting

Thinking ahead, bead blasting will be necessary to clean the fuselage before welding and painting. How will this be possible?

I found a few idea's and obviously, the smaller blasting boxes are not suitable for a fuselage. Here's a few setups I have found:

If you have any better idea's please pass them on.

  1. Hi Darin,

If you have a big enough yard, set up outside for blasting. All the fuss of making an indoor both isn't worth the effort unless you are going to do this for a living. For turning you can make a cross from 2x4's for the firewall and rest the tail on a sawhorse. A big compressor is a must. My 5-hp model didn't even come close so I went to the rental center for a tow-behind unit.

Going into it my biggest concern was making a sand mound in my grass but to my pleasant surprise the sand was barely noticeable afterward. The job used about 700 pounds of sand for fuselage, tail feathers, controls, everything.

    Good luck,
    Ed
